Because of this recent popularity, there are very few video game characters that could be considered household names. Mario is one of the few characters that most people have at least heard of, and many of his fans love learning how to draw Mario.

If you’re a fan of this edgy Italian plumber, then this is the perfect tutorial for you! Our step-by-step guide to drawing Mario in just 6 steps will show you how easy and fun it can be to draw the hero with the mustache.

How To Draw Mario

Step 1

Mario is rarely seen without his iconic hat, so it stands to reason that we’ll start with it in the first step of our how to draw Mario guide.

First, use curved lines to create the thin brim of her hat that curves over her face. Next, draw the wide, puffy part of his hat using more curved lines at the top.

Finally, we will use more rounded lines for her tousled hair and ear protruding from under her hat. Then, we can continue with step 2 of the guide!

Step 2

Next, we’ll add even more iconic details to your Mario drawing. The first step is to draw the big M on his hat.

You can draw the letter in bold block capitals and circle it.

Then we draw his face. His eyes are drawn as two thin ovals with rounded pupils, and his bushy eyebrows sit above them.

Its nose is large and bulbous and can be drawn by a rounded bow line.

It wouldn’t be a real representation of Mario without his famous mustache so you can draw him under his nose with irregular lines.

Step 3

We’ll draw him in a running stance, and you can draw the beginning of his arms with some curved lines protruding from his shoulders.

Step 4

There are some cases where it has a different color scheme, and while you could choose to do that, we wanted to use the classic colors for this example.

In this image, we used red for the hat and shirt, then blue for the pants, and brown for the shoes, hair, and mustache.

You’ll want to use some artistic mediums like colored markers and pens to match the bright colors of the games, but whatever you use will be great!
